Movement

This piece is my AS-level exam piece, which uses acrylic paint and charcoal. The theme that I focused on was "movement" and how it could obscure the way we perceive things. Therefore I researched into artists such as Giacomo Balla and Marcel Duchamp and the methods they used to convey movement. The main inspiration behind this piece was Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase. For my painting, I adopted both their styles, with Balla's inspiration as the background and Duchamp's descending a staircase as the top layer of charcoal.
